Student Advocacy Service
The mandate
of the Dalhousie Student Advocacy Service (DSAS) is to help students receive fair and
reasonable decisions on issues dealing with academic appeal and discipline
matters.
The advocacy service has a staff of just over twenty volunteer advocates. Generally, one volunteer advocate is assigned to a student’s case. The advocate advises the student about the case, helps draft and edit any written submissions, prepares the student for hearings and formal appeals, supports the student through the process and articulates matters of importance during the oral hearing if the student is having difficulty.
All information that students provide to DSAS, including the fact that he or she has consulted with the service, is kept confidential and will not be released without the student's consent. Students should not hesitate to contact DSAS if he or she has any questions about its practice of confidentiality.
The
Dalhousie Student Advocacy Service is a year-round service operated by the DSU
and the office, located on the third floor of the SUB, is 100% student-run.
