Grants
Each year the DSU grants $50,000 to support various students and student groups on campus. Based on trends in numbers of applications received, 15% of this budget is available in the summer term, 30% in the fall term, and 55% in the winter term. The DSU seeks to allocate its resources in an equitable manner with the objective of benefiting Dalhousie students. Society Grants are available to help eligible societies defray operational costs, plan, promote and participate in endeavours that will be beneficial for the Dalhousie community. Individual grants are available to help DSU members represent Dalhousie and the DSU at conferences, competitions and events. DSU grants are available to any active, ratified DSU society or DSU member in good standing.
More information on eligible and ineligible uses can be found in the Grants policy found in Forms & Documents.
Application Process
Member and Society grant application forms can be found in Forms & Documents. All applications for funding must be submitted prior to the event and include the application form, a cover letter outlining the reason for applying, a budget and confirmation of the budget (receipt, travel itinerary, etc.). Incomplete applications will not be considered. Completed applications can be submitted to the DSU Vice-President Internal's office located in room 222 of the SUB. Applications are processed on a first-come, first-serve basis. More information on the application process can be found in the Grats policy also located in Forms & Documents.
The Grants committee meets monthly during the Summer and bi-weekly during the Fall and Winter semesters to review and ratify all applications. You can expect an email shortly after the meeting indicating whether or not the application was approved or denied. If approved, cheque runs are done the last Friday of every month.
