Student Accessibility Bursary

by Ray Yang last modified 2010-03-12 14:03

Student Services IconIn the early 90’s, a student accessibility fund was started by a group of students with disabilities. The money for this fund comes from student fees each school year, and the total sum to date is approximately $75,000.

The primary mission of the Student Accessibility Fund committee (SAFC) is to create an open and accessible DSU for all students, regardless or physical of mental differences or disabilities. We will also strive to promote the social benefits of an accessible campus here at Dalhousie University, and to represent the interests of all students with disabilities internally on the DSU Council and within the University community.

The SAFC handles the funds entrusted by students responsibly, and when possible, reinvests these funds to help the students the DSU represents.

The SAFC is proud to allocate two $1000 bursaries each year open to all Dalhousie students with accessibility issues. The SAFC recognizes that there are additional financial burdens associated with having a disability. These bursaries will help students defray these costs. All students are encouraged to apply, regardless of whether or not they have a student loan, or receive outside funding.

Application Process

The Student Accessibility Bursary Application can be found in Forms & Documents, or by clicking here.  Submit the completed application to the DSU Vice-President (Internal) in room 222 of the SUB.  Application deadline for the 2009-2010 bursary is April   15th at 4:00 pm.  Late or incomplete applications will not be considered.
