TigerBooks is one of the many ways the DSU is working to decrease the financial burden of high textbook prices on students. Here are some other money saving options if you can’t find what you’re looking for:
Save trees, save money: check CourseSmart.com for a digital version of your course text. Prices are generally only a fraction of the price of the hardcopy.
Shop around online:
International editions of textbooks are available at significantly lower cost through AbeBooks.com. The paper quality isn’t as good as domestic editions, and the photos may be black and white, but you’ll save money and learn just as well.
BestWebBuys.com is a great site to compare prices of standard textbooks between online wholesalers like Amazon.ca, Chapters.ca, and BarnesAndNoble.com most of which generally beat bookstore prices
Consider not buying a book. Most profs put a reserve copy of their books in the library and most classics are available free online at Gutenberg.org.
Share with a friend, split the cost.
Buy and sell used books through the Dal Bookstore’s textbook buyback.
