Terminology
Listed below are definitions for the two most frequently used terms on TigerSociety:
- Executive Officers - A public figurehead of a society (typically a President, Vice-President and/or Treasurer), and is registered with the DSU as being responsible for that society. Not all executives are executive officers. Your society may have more than three executives, but at least three of them need to be appointed as the executive officers of the society. The contact information of executive officers (email addresses and full name) will be publicly accessible.
- Administrators - A member of the society who has the ability to modify and update the society's information on TigerSociety . Executive officers are not automatically society administrators. It is possible for a member to be both an executive officer and an administrator. An administrator may simply be an appointed member of a society.

Creating a Society
Societies are now required to ratify online with TigerSociety . The DSU is no longer accepting paper ratification applications. This website is designed to simplify the ratification process, reduce the onerous tasks of getting signatures from society executive officers, tracking down constitutions, etc., while reducing the amount of paper usage.
If you would like to create a society or this is the first time your society is ratifying online please refer to the steps to successfully create a society located in Create a Society on the main DSU website ( www.dsu.ca ).

Frequently Asked Questions
- Q: I tried to create a society on TigerSociety but the warning says the name of my society has already been taken. I checked the list of societies and my society does not appear there. What am I doing wrong?
A: If you've searched for the society to see if it already exists and nothing shows up, it means your predecessor started to ratify your society online and never completed the process. The society still exists on TigerSociety but isn't visible. To resolve the problem do the following:- Have the three incoming executive officers log in to TigerSociety with their personal Dalhousie NetID and password. Once they log in they will be registered in the system.
- Contact the Society Coordinator at society.coordinator@dal.ca with the names of the three new executive officers and the name of the society. The Society Coordinator will add those three individuals as the society's executive officers. You will know this is done when a link to your society's home page becomes available under “My Societies.” This link will direct you to your society's home page.
- Q: Why was my society de-ratified?
A: Your society may have been de-ratified for one of two reasons:- Your society has violated the DSU constitution, DSU society policy, the student code of conduct or your own society's constitution. In such a case, you would have been contacted by the DSU VP Internal and would have been made aware of the DSU Council's decision to de-ratify your society. This rarely occurs and would require an extreme act of negligence.
- As of May 1st of each year, all societies need to re-ratify with the DSU. Societies will remain ratified with the DSU until April 30 th , regardless of when the society was ratified. Please refer to the steps for a successful executive transition located in Transition Information on the main DSU website ( www.dsu.ca ).
