Description
The Social Activist Law Student Association (SALSA) is a non-hierarchical society at Dalhousie Law School. SALSA strives to bring activism to the law by advancing progressive issues such as anti-poverty initiatives, the promotion of social justice and the encouragement of sustainability. SALSA believes the law can be a tool which activists can utilize to secure success. Although based on campus, SALSA seeks to promote change throughout the community by establishing close working relationships with other organizations, assisting them whenever needed. Some of SALSA's recent activities have included the legal observation of protests (SALSA members observe and document the behaviour of the police and protesters at demonstrations and have been called upon to serve as witnesses if a trial results), presenting "know-your-rights" workshops, spearheading fundraising drives that have benefited numerous community groups, hosting film screenings, and presenting Dalhousie's largest student-run conference IDEALaw.
