Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) Program
Sexual Assault Nurse Examiners (SANEs) are registered nurses who have completed specialized education and clinical preparation in medical forensic care for patients who have experienced sexual assault or abuse. Delivered through contracted service providers, on-call SANE nurses provide immediate care within seven days of a sexual assault to people who would like supportive care, including medical attention, information about resources, as well as the option to have forensic evidence collected.

A surgical abortion and medical abortion clinic based at the Victoria General site of the QEII Health Sciences Centre in Halifax. There is a provincial self-referral line (listed below) for information about accessing medical and surgical abortions at the QEII and other locations across the province. Women can work with the referral line to learn more about accessing services closer to home.

ManTalk is a confidential, emotionally supportive group for male victims of sexual abuse. Meeting on the first and third Wednesday evenings of the month, they are a welcoming and safe space. GBTIQ, African Nova Scotian, Indigenous and other men representing diverse communities are encouraged to join. New members are always welcome!

Provincial Mental Health & Addictions Crisis Line
Provincial Mental Health and Addictions Crisis Line
Also known as “Mobile Crisis Team” in Central Nova Scotia, this line provides crisis intervention for children, youth and adults experiencing a mental health crisis or mental distress. The service is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, to support callers who present with suicidal thoughts, self-harming thoughts or behaviours, overwhelming anxiety, difficulty coping with distress, psychotic or distorted thinking, depression, substance use difficulties or any other self-identified mental health concerns. The Mobile Crisis Team can make home visits in the Halifax area, please note police will always accompany the team to every home visit.

Nova Scotia Transition & Advocacy for Youth (NSTAY)
NSTAY is a program which provides exploited/trafficked youth with wraparound support and connects them with the services they need. NSTAY has been developed with a trauma-informed lens and takes a harm-reduction approach. Services include peer support, housing support, court support, employment and education counselling, an emergency transitional housing program for victims of sexual exploitation and human trafficking, and more.

Offers temporary housing for up to seven youth at one time (ages 16-24). In addition to residential services, they offer programming, workshops, hygiene and kitchen facilities, outreach services, and referrals. Serves homeless and at-risk youth in Digby, Shelburne and Yarmouth counties.

Dalhousie Security Services
Dalhousie’s Security Services offer both on and off-campus supports to keep students safe at both the Halifax and Truro campuses. They’re available 24/7, offer drop-in services, and are able to respond to incidents of violence, including sexual assault and/or harassment, upon students’ request. Please note, Dal Security are not police officers and will not alert any additional officers unless you specifically request those supports.
