Society Resources

Society Notice Board

The DSU would like to improve communications with our ratified societies. Beyond email updates, your society can now expect to see important announcements and reminders being posted on this notice board. We recommend societies check here periodically to stay on top of communications from the DSU.

Primary Event Organizer Portal

Is your society planning on hosting an event? There are lots of great venues and service options for societies both in and out of campus. Since this can be overwhelming, the DSU would like to offer as much assistance as we can when possible. We advise you to use the PEO Portal below to help you with any and all event planning.

NOTE: Every society must have at least 1 trained PEO to host events. PEO Training must be renewed every academic year, and the DSU recommends you have at least 2 PEOs in your society

DSU Website Contact Update Form

Is your society's contact information outdated? Let us know!

Please use this form to make any desired changes to the contact information of your society. Whether it be a change in contact email, new social media, or anything else; we will try our best to keep it as updated as possible.

Societies are responsible for filling out this form post-ratification to ensure all details are accurate, true and up to date!

NOTE: Please understand that there will be a time buffer from us getting your request, to changes being reflected on the website.

Society Bank Letter Request Form

Re-ratified Societies that have a bank account will want to transfer signing authority to their new executive each year.

Societies that don’t yet have a bank account will need to open one to apply for any funding directly from the DSU.

Step 1: Find the name/location of your bank, and fill out the Bank Letter Request Form with the names and positions of those being taken off of the account and those being added! (New accounts will need to add 3 names /positions of those on the new account.)

Step 2: Once approved, you will receive an email that the bank letter is ready. We can send it to you electronically or arrange a hard copy pick up depending on bank protocols.

Step 3: Give the Bank Letter to your society's bank!

Society Domain, Webserver & Email

The DSU provides a domain name and web server, which excludes web development or design services, to societies that request a Net ID. The provided URL for the domain name is in the form of "societyname.dsu.dal.ca". Your society is responsible for building the website. The default SFTP access information for the webserver is:

Host: X

  • Username: Society NetID

  • Society NetID Password

  • Port: 22

Complete a Username Request Form to renew your society @dal email address or to request a new one.

Send the completed form to execadm@dal.ca

*PLEASE NOTE: Each society only gets ONE permanent Net ID, so pick your Net ID wisely! Net IDs must be 3-8 characters and only include letters/numbers.

Society Transition
& Mentorship Resources

Every society will have its own protocols and guidelines for transitioning. This is because each society is structured a bit differently. Regardless, we have put together a variety of resources that should aid most societies with the transition process in one way or another.

If you require additional support or have any questions, please contact dsusocieties@dal.ca

Constitution Support

Our Policy & Governance Coordinator (PGC) can help you with any society governance document questions. Contact the PGC at dsu.policy@dal.ca.

Our Constitution Template is available to guide the creation and remodelling of your constitution. Please refer to this before submitting your constitution for re-ratification!

Financial Guide

This guide is meant for executives that don’t have a Treasurer/VP Finance role in their Society but want a better understanding of how their Society’s finances work. A Treasurer may find this presentation useful when trying to communicate what support they need from the rest of their team, or when drafting their transition report.

For further inquiries, you should reach out to the DSU VPFO at dsuvpf@dal.ca

CCR Guide videos

Dalhousie’s Co-Curricular Record (CCR) is an official document from Dalhousie that recogizes your in and out-of-classroom accomplishments including campus-life, community engagement, volunteer, leadership, and awards.

Any current Dalhousie student can add positions to their CCR and get recognition for their accomplishments. The CCR can be used to complement resume or school applications.

Society Locker Rentals

Are you tired of commuting around campus with event supplies? The DSU offers Society Locker rentals on the 3rd Floor of the SUB. These massive lockers can be found in the Kitchenette area of the Society Hub. A Society Locker can be rented out for the entire academic year for FREE. To secure a Society Locker for your group, please contact execadm@dal.ca to procure a contract.

NOTE: Societies are responsible for keeping their respective locker and surrounding areas clean. Please keep this communal resource tidy! Additionally, societies are responsible for re-applying or vacating their locker space at the end of their term.

Member Service Assistants

As of May 01st, 2023, the Member Services Desk will not be operating in the DSU. All services previously offered by the Member Services Desk will be offered at the Info Desk in the Main Lobby of the SUB.
