Dalhousie Global Brigades - Public Health Chapter
Global Public Health Brigades is an international movement of university students working to improve health conditions in the developing world.
Global Public Health Brigades is an international movement of university students working to improve health conditions in the developing world.
A team of student volunteers depart on a week-long trip to work with a community in Honduras, Panama, Nicaragua or Ghana. Through an evidence-based model, we work alongside local community members to build projects that tangibly improve lives in these developing countries. Volunteers work with local masons and families to build eco-stoves, latrines, concrete floors, showers, and/or water storage units. Global Brigades also supports communities with healthcare, economic development and clean water projects and uniquely implements these programs in a holistic model to meet a community’s health and economic goals.
This year our trip is to Panama! happening from April 28th to May 5th after final exams. Every student is welcome to join! To learn more, please visit www.globalbrigades.org.

The Dalhousie Exchange Society is focused on making the whole “exchange” experience as fun and easy as possible. Bhangra is a Punjabi folk dance style originating from Punjab, India that now we have brought to Dalhousie! This is the first time ever that Dalhousie has this society! We currently do performances as well as looking into doing more classes to teach more people this dance form. You don't have to be a Punjabi to join nor have any experience to be a part of Dal Bhangra. We are a tight knit society, almost like a family and have practices often. Skin Protection Force (SPF)
The SPF (Skin Protection Force) Society is a dedicated community of university student advocates committed to educating individuals of all ages about the importance of protecting their skin from harmful UV rays.

Our mission is to empower individuals with the knowledge and tools to protect their skin from dangerous UV rays, promoting a lifelong habit of sun safety. Through interactive programs, engaging resources, and collaborative initiatives, we strive to ensure that everyone develops a strong understanding of the risks associated with sun exposure and the preventive measures needed to maintain healthy skin. Together, we can foster a community that makes well-informed decisions that allow everyone to enjoy the sun responsibly.
Dalhousie students can act as volunteers with SPF to educate local schools, teams, and workplaces on sun safety. This will allow members to build skills in presenting, communication, health advocacy, and teamwork. SPF members can take on roles in community engagement, educational resource development, or presentation delivery.

We are a group of students interested in advocating for and promoting blood donation in the Dalhousie community. We strive to inform students about the important roles blood and tissue donors play in Canada's healthcare system, and encourage anyone who is eligible to join Canada's Lifeline. DalBlood works closely with Canadian Blood Services (CBS) to organize on-campus blood donation clinics, where many of our society members volunteer to support CBS staff.

We are a society for undergraduate students who are majoring in or interested in the field of neuroscience. Throughout the year, we hold several events, such as fundraising for our chosen charity to fun events for everyone to have the chance to meet people with the same interests. Dalhousie Aquaculture Student Society (DASS) is a student-led undergraduate society open to everyone with an interest in the cultivation and rearing of aquatic organisms for scientific and industrial purposes. DASS welcomes people interested in the many facets of aquaculture including fish, shellfish, microorganisms, engineering, and more. Our goal is to give students knowledge, connections, and advice to be able to work and study in aquaculture.

As a society we organize hands-on activities to give students with a passion for aquatic species a deeper knowledge of aquaculture. Some activities we hope to organize this year include tours of local and international aquaculture facilities and research labs, studying larval species under microscopes, discussing cultivation methods, and exploring aquaculture technology. The biggest reason to join DASS is to gain knowledge and friendships from upper year students. Our exec team and members have different experiences within the field thus we organize meetings on picking classes, getting co-ops, choosing SEASIDE courses, doing honours research, getting applicable job opportunities, and more. We want to develop a deep sense of community and friendship within the societies, thus we organize intramural sports to foster these connections.
DASS wants to give students in this niche field of study connections with professors, potential employers, and peers to gain future opportunities. We host meetings and activities where students' interest and knowledge can be explored. We hope all people interested in or wanting to learn about aquaculture come to this inclusive and safe space.
